Tests for Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acid
1.Tollens reagent - Aldehydes form silver mirror, Ketones do not
2. Fehling's solution test - Aldehydes give red precipitate, Ketones do not.
3. Schiff's reagent test - Aldehydes give pink colour, Ketones do not
4. Reduction with LiAlH4 - Aldehydes form primary alcohols, Ketones form secondary alcohols
5. Reaction with alcohol and dilute HCl - Aldehydes give acetals, Ketones do not give ketals.
